Model Railways On-Line - Lynton and Barnstaple Railway in 1935
Frame captured from video The Lynton and Barnstaple Railway This film of the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway was taken in 1935 by Edward Ward of Exeter on 16mm using a Kodak Model BB Junior with a Kodak Anastigmat F1.9 25mm lens, running at 16 fps. Edward made a journey from Exeter to Lynton recording his journey on two 100ft reels of film. The second reel comprises the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway. In 1965, at my request, he arranged for a copy to be made from his original film for my collection. It is from this copy that the video has been produced. Much of Edward Ward’s film was used in the BBC1 two-part television programme The Little Train to Lynton. Part 1 was first broadcast on 29th June 1987 and Part 2 on 1st July 1987. However, a shot of Woody Bay and two shots of ‘Taw’ at Lynton were not included in the TV programme. They are now included in this video. Please note: This video has now been removed from Youtube due to possible copyright issues. If anyone knows the whereabouts of the original 16mm film made by Edward Ward we would be very pleased to hear from you. Also if anyone can put us in contact with the Ward family, formerly of Union Road, Exeter we would be most appreciative. Contact Paul Plowman
