The Model Railway Wish List Poll for 2010 was conducted through the month of March. This year, the following magazines lent their support to the poll:
  • Rail Express Modeller
  • Hornby Magazine
  • Model Rail
  • Model Trains International
  • The Collector
  • Train Collector
  • Collectors Gazette
  • Model Railway Express
We would like to thank the editors for their support and look forward to working with them again with the 2011 poll.

Poll Achievements

We would like to thank all of those who voted for taking part in the poll - doing so is a great opportunity for everyone to tell the manufacturers what models they would like to see introduced or upgraded. There is no doubt that over the last few years, the annual "Wish List" poll has been a driver behind the following models (not listed in any particular order) being introduced:

Shark (Hornby)
M7 (Hornby)
T9 (Hornby)
04 (Bachmann)
Engineering wagons (Hornby and Bachmann)
Class 53 (Heljan)
Class 14 (Heljan)
Class 15 (Heljan)
Class 17 (Heljan)
Class 58 (Heljan)
MK2 Coaches (Bachmann)
HST Upgrade (Hornby)
SR N (Bachmann)
08 (Hornby and Bachmann)
Class 108 DMU (Bachmann - 1st Generation DMU)
Maunsell Coaches (Hornby)
Hawkesworth Coaches (Hornby)
Gresley Coaches (Upgrade - Hornby)
6 wheel tankers (Hornby and Dapol)
Class 22 (Dapol)
GWR "Castle" Upgrade (Hornby)
GWR 28xx 2-8-0 Upgrade (Hornby)
4CEP (Bachmann)
"Thumper" DEMU (Dapol, now Bachmann)

Poll Technology

As in 2009, we extended the technology used to operate the poll in order that we could increase the security and accuracy of the data and provide instant results at the end, without having to go through a "cleaning process". We achieved the latter by using drop-down lists. This had the effect of everyone entering their choices in exactly the same format, which enabled us to provide instant results. It also prevented duplication of items.
As per last year, we have decided to make the actual poll results available for public viewing.

Poll Results

The following pages contain the results of each poll:

2mm/N Scale Poll Results
4mm/00/EM/P4 Scale Poll Results
7mm/O Scale Poll Results

Comments

Across all of the polls this year, a total of 46 people tried to either double vote or submit votes from invalid email addresses. During the poll 'wrap-up' and preparation of results for publishing, these votes were deleted as we viewed them as attempts to distort the poll results. However, before deleting them, we compared the results with the invalid votes against the results without and certainly, in the 4mm LNER loco category, two locos moved down the top 10 as a result of removing invalid votes.
